Reclaimed Rice Dryer Pine Tongue & Groove (By The Board Foot)
Reclaimed Rice Dryer Pine Tongue & Groove (By The Board Foot)
This unique Southern Yellow Pine material offers an interesting patina full of Louisiana history. Frequently, when demolishing old buildings, material like this is destroyed and sent to a landfill but the property owners saw the value in this material and partnered with Revival Timberworks to invest in properly salvaging it so we could offer it to you.
The wooden rice dryers were a common sight in the Rayne area for many decades and played a vital role in the rice industry. Providing countless families with rice for all those Cajun dishes we love so much. However, as technology advanced, many of these dryers were replaced with more modern and efficient dryers, made of metal or concrete. Many of the wooden rice dryers were abandoned and left to deteriorate, but some have been repurposed as storage sheds, barns, and other structures. Others have been salvaged and repurposed as reclaimed wood for flooring, furniture, and other decorative items.
This material has a unique patina on one face that is caused by nearly one hundred years of rice running over these boards. A variety of material sizes are available, and we are happy to provide custom production architectural millworks and furniture made from this material.
